I’m Carrie Fisher, a contemporary artist based in Toronto, Canada.
Within Roadside Studio, I create abstract expressionist pieces that reflect my longing for a deeper connection to my surroundings and experiences, as well as a way to reimagine the stories and events that have shaped the world.
My aesthetic is strongly inspired by my early years growing up in South Africa and by my desire to explore and connect with new cultures and landscapes. Despite studying photography and fine art at OCAD University, I consider myself more of a self-taught painter since my practice has been shaped by curiosity and experimentation rather than formality.
Prior to creating Roadside Studio, I owned and operated Roadside Florist, an event floral design studio specializing in wild and unconventional arrangements. Although flowers have been replaced with paints, I know I’ll revisit the floral world again, somehow…
When I am not in the studio, I’m enjoying time with my family, exploring nature, and practicing mindfulness through journaling and meditation - All ways that allow more presence and inspire a greater connection and appreciation for my craft.
